I found an Old D&D figurine I had painted years ago. My Brother & Sister had me addicted to collecting and painting these figurines. Nice to find one.
She use to have wings...wonder where they might have ended up. Oh well. Doesn't she look bada$$!

Graphics Artist Guild withdraws Support on SOPA

Such a controversial issue. As an Artist I should be for SOPA when it concerns piracy acts, but the Bill needs many many changes & it seems GAG agrees with me; And GAG is one of the MAIN supporters and protectors of Artists.

Gee it sure has been awhile, but I'm ready to get back into action!
Especially now that I have the Blogger app on my phone & iPad you will hear a lot more from me. I hope to share many of my projects with you soon.

So here is a quick summary, I took off from my studies at Boston to have and raise a precious baby Boy! Love him beyond words. I hope to return soon. I loved what I was learning at BU, but just because I'm not taking classes doesn't mean I have to stop studying. So many articles and journals out there to review and reflect on.

I also have a few projects I am working on.

1- Cover Art for Book2 of "The Draca Wards Saga"
2- Updating my website with purchase options and items

4- new upcoming website for custom art and books (this is a major project I hope to see come to life some time next Year)

Boston University-Art Education

Below is just an overall 'throw-up' of my mind. With all the research and readings I have been doing, it helps to just write out my thoughts...

I may have mentioned this before, I can't seem to remember, but I am working on receiving my Masters Degree at Boston University for Art Education.

There are so many issues & studies being brought to my attention on the future of the Arts in our K-12 schools, it has me concerned. We all know the issues pertaining to our education system here in America: budget cuts, school closings, the letting go of teachers, over crowding of schools, constant curriculum changes, and the many other issues... it is so disheartening.
What is the future of our education system and what is to become of the children caught in the time of constant change and argument until a steady path is reached?

In addition to all these issues, the arts are being removed from our children's education. One of the reasons is that the Arts are perceived as meaningless to (most not all) parents, administrators, and school boards and the importance of the Arts, in terms of child development, is not being articulated to the masses. It is seen as time wasted throughout the school day, where other subjects should take more precedence, but light is not being shed on the many skills achieved when studying the arts like: perception, observation, visualization, conceptualization to name a few. And many of these cognitive skills, which are important in everyday life and work, can not be taught or strengthened from the other liberal subjects the way the Arts can.

Yes, there are advocates and groups fighting and pronouncing that the arts strengthen math and reading scores, but I don't think its enough. We need to provide and showcase more concrete positions for the Arts and what it provides for childhood development besides better test scores, like cognitive skills.

We also need to realize the importance of subject integration. To integrate art into other subjects such as science, history, geography, math, and English can be shown as a benefit to teaching the 'whole' child. These classes can all compliment each other, and if integrated properly with the arts, the student can associate the commonalities between all the subjects and strengthen their approach on how they study and execute problems to all their lessons.

It's a debate that is turning into a huge struggle throughout our country, and the students are loosing out.

What do you think? Is there an importance to seeking art as a standard subject in all schools? Is it a waste of time? Can it coincide with other subjects and provide a balanced learning experience? What is the future of the Arts? Do your local schools support the Arts?

Dreaming Baby

Hey everyone!
I just finished a cool digital painting on BABY! It was actually an assignment for my class. Of course i found a way to incorporate the little bun in the oven to one of my assignments :)

I call it Dreaming Baby. My husband and I have a running joke about “the adventures of baby” and we think up scenarios he/she might be up to in my belly. We can be silly like that.

So here is my take on that, with Baby dreaming up sweet adventures in the sky, flying with the birds.

Here is the Map I created for author B.Pine for her book Familiar Origins. I must say this was a bit of a challenge interpreting how the author envisioned their world and to bring it to life on a map. We worked hard together to make it as accurate as possible to coincide with the descriptions in the book.

I mostly used Illustrator creating vector outlines and shapes. Then I brought it into Photoshop where I dazzled it up and brought it to life. I am very happy with the way it came out. You can also view the map on the website, where I made it interactive. On the site you are able to click on sections of the Map and get a 'pop-up' describing the country or area and a summary on the people. It's really cool! I hope you all like it. I am happy to share that this image will also be printed in the book as well in black & white. Yay!

So many CHANGES for me!
I got married to my HS sweetie in May 2010, Preggers that September, and started on my Masters Degree with Boston University for Art Education in Oct!! What a year 2010 :)

I am most excited about 2011 though. I get to meet my baby in June, and my sisters book Familiar Origins comes out this February!! I am so happy that we got to work together as a sister duo, creating her website and designing her advertisement plan. I loved illustrating the Book Cover, and I am happy to be working on more art dedicated towards her fantasy world.

I can't wait to share this all with you, so stay tuned because there is more to come!

Meeting Frank and Ellie Frazetta!!!

I am just reminiscing on a wonderful day with my darling Jen, when we visited Frank Frazettas home and gallery in PA. It was such an amazng day, to talk with his wife and meet him. She had such wonderful funny stories to share with us. MAy they both rest in peace...
I have always admired his art but I swear, to see his paintings in person takes it to another level. Can I say non of the prints or online images can compare to how they actually look! 10 times better, how is that possible? It is! Pictures cant capture his true art form. Here is a post from that day, back in 2007, my Jenny wrote explaining our day :)

Book Cover!!

Here it is, the book cover to Familiar Origins the Draca Wards Saga written by B. Pine! Get ready to Pre-Order everyone.
The feeling to know one of my Illustrations is being published is Sooo EXCITING!
And to top it off, being a part of the creation of the Sagas website....Whooo hoooo.
The book will be available for all e-reader downloads this September. e-Readers the way of the Future!
(I must say that the majority of printed books that I own I have also purchased for my e-readers. Crazy habit? Love of books? Weird Disorder?...Who knows, I'm sure I am not the only one)
We have to love the convenience and ease of a book reader, but for all the book readers out there, like me, that will always appreciate and love the feel of a book in their hands and flipping through the pages, Familiar Saga will be out in print Feb.2011. I wish it was sooner, but I don't own a printing company :(

Hey guys!

I havent posted anything in quite awhile. Many many changes in my life, but now it is time to share what I have been up too.

Things to come: Book Cover!! Oh yea, I have been working on a Book Cover for author B. Pine. The book, Familiar~Origins is to be published by Silver Leaf Books. I have also began work on a website for the author, familiarsaga.com. Much work to be done!!

I cant wait to share all my work. Once given the green light I will post the Book Cover :)

Until then I will share my other art. I have been real into digital painting lately. Playing with templates and painting portaits. Nothing like oil painting but still an art and technique in itself. I have been practicing with flesh tones. My biggest hurdle has been immitating hair. Such a Pain!! But I'll get it...practice practice practice & my Wacom :)

So, keep an eye out!! Lots to come :)

Tonight was the Open Reception for "World of Imagination vol.2" art show at the APW Gallery!

It had a great turn out, and had a lot to take in. With over 400 artist participating and providing at least 5 works of art on 12 x12 canvas, the gallery walls themselves became its own puzzle piece of art. The show featured many talented works of art, and here are just a few of my favorites from tonight...

I am happy to share, that I will be part of the APW arts exhibition this March.

They are going big with this exhibition, and will be showcasing 2000 paintings, in one gallery at one time.
All works will be 12x12 paintings.
I plan to showcase 5 artworks, and I promise to update all my ideas & my progress until completion on my blog for all to see :)

Now all I have to do is figure out what to create.

Ok, so I have been spending these few days building my website and I came up with an idea. Those who know me are fully aware of my pup Onyx. He just does the most wacky things so I figured I would document his antics in a comic and post it on my site. I know it is a bit Garfield like but I like the idea of documenting my pup. Anyway, here is an idea of a look for it...not sure I might go with it...I think I might go more simplistic with it.
